Students do wonder, justifiably, whether they should take the SAT or the ACT. First, it’s important to understand that universities accept either score and do not prefer one over the other. Below are some key differences between the two tests, although one should consult Uwezo before making the final decision.
While the new Digital SAT has two components – Math and English, the latter now combines Reading and Writing & Language into one section – Act has four sections: English (akin to old SAT’s Writing & Language), Reading, Math and Science, with equal score and weight given to all components. Each section is out of 36 points and the final score is the average of all four sections.
The ACT is more aggressive on time, allowing 68% less time than the SAT, overall. The questions on the ACT might be considered somewhat easier than the corresponding questions on the SAT; however, one has to be very comfortable with the pace of the ACT. The Science section is applicable only to the ACT – you need a basic understanding of the sciences, although this component tests more about comprehension and ability to read graphs/tables than your mastery of Science. Finally, the Digital SAT no longer has long passages followed by multiple questions; instead, it has a 4-5 lines of text, a paragraph, and only one question related to the text. This applies to both types of questions – Reading and Writing & Language.
Just like the SAT, Uwezo’s ACT offering consists of 50+ hours of instruction, online and offline practice and online mocks after the classes are finished. Our faculty is extremely well-versed in ACT as well. We keep to small class sizes which enables us to provide attention to each and every student in a batch. The average ACT score at Uwezo is 30/36, while 60% of the students get 32/36 and our highest score 36/36 till date. Uwezo Learning’s SAT coaching involves a total of 52 hours of in-class instruction, followed by up to 12 or 15 mocks (Please see Why Uwezo SAT). First, 40 hours are spent on covering SAT English and SAT Math. After 3 mocks are done by all students, another 12 hours (six for Math and six for English) are dedicated to focusing on problem areas as a group, with the help of Omar™. After coaching is complete, practice entails doing 12 to 15 mocks with an average of four hours per mock. Reviews are provided for the mocks to identify areas of improvement and clear doubts.
Uwezo Learning offers Subject SAT training in Math, Physics and Chemistry. While the number of hours of teaching varies by subject, it is about 20-25 hours of classroom instruction followed by several mocks. Like our SAT offering, Subject SAT mocks are also analysed, and a detailed report provided – by using Omar™ – for you to understand areas of weakness. Most of our students score a perfect 800 in Subject SATs, with an average score of 790.
Absolutely! Three months, when properly utilized for studying, can sufficiently prepare you for the ACT. Focus areas like English, math, science, and reading can see improvements. Yet, the point to remember is that your basic score and weekly study hours will impact your results.
Using official study materials and managing time well are key for ACT study. Uwezo provides additional support with custom coaching, apt strategies, and practice tests to boost your score. Regularly going over errors and focusing on weak points leads to success.
Remember, the ACT has four parts: Science, English, Reading, and Math. Plus an optional one – Writing. Essential is the understanding of the format and time allocation for all sections. Regular practice enhances speed and accuracy in areas you‘re struggling with
It’s normally high school students, primarily in the United States, looking at college applications who take the ACT. Specifically, juniors and seniors who are focused on fulfilling college admission needs. Even foreign students might take the ACT for applying to U.S colleges.
Through Uwezo, you‘ll get a tailored practice in algebra, trigonometry, and geometry. This aids in quick and precise problem-solving. We’ll also guide you with tactics to speedily handle difficult math problems within your time limit.
While it’s not possible to guarantee a certain score, we provide you with tailored resources and strategies to help you reach your above par potential. Know that your diligence and regularity play a big role in attaining your desired score.
